Concept explainers
Interpretation:
The experimental support on the statement that copper is an element on the basis of copper cycle is to be comprehended.
Concept introduction:
Chemistry deals with the different processes which occur in surrounding and are directly or indirectly related to each other.
Elements are the basic unit of any substance which can combine with same or different elements to form molecule and compounds. Elements are composed of the same type of atoms, therefore, they exhibit unique physical and chemical properties.
Explanation of Solution
Copper cycle is a series of conversion of solid copper to get it back after different chemical changes. Reaction of solid copper with HNO3 forms copper nitrate which further changes to copper oxide. Reaction of copper oxide with sulfuric acid forms copper sulfate which further reacts with Zn to form copper metal and zinc sulfate
Overall in copper cycle, the amount and physical state of copper before and after the reaction is the same. Copper undergoes different chemical process during copper cycle but at the end of the cycle, it remains same that is copper element.
It proves that copper is an element which is basic building matter and can combine with other materials to form different compounds by various
