Concept explainers
Interpretation:
Examples of 5 words must be given which describe the movement of matter.
Concept introduction:
Matters are those which have some mass and occupy some volume.
Answer to Problem 6E
Five examples which describe the movement of matter are diffusion, osmosis, water flow, air flow and volcanic eruption.
Explanation of Solution
Some of the matters can flow which are known as fluid. For example, liquid and gaseous compounds can flow from one place to another.
In diffusion process, two types of molecules are mixed. For example, when a drop of ink is added to a bucket of water then the ink is mixed throught the water. Air can flow from one place to another. Storm is the example of sudden air flow. Similarly, in the process of osmosis, solvent molecule (water) can pass from lower concentration to higher concentration when separated by a semi-permeable membrane.
Thus, matter can flow. Examples are water and air or gas. This describes the movement of matter.
