Interpretation:
The role of chemical name and symbols in the copper cycle to figure out the formation of different compounds needs to be explained.
Concept introduction:
Elements are basic unit of matter. They are composed of same type of atoms. Each element is represented with the help of certain chemical symbol.
The long form of periodic table has chemical symbols of all known elements. Each
Answer to Problem 1E
The chemical names and formulas are used to keep track of the formation of new substance during the reaction and it also accounts for the nature of change that is physical or chemical.
Explanation of Solution
Copper cycle is a series of conversion of solid copper to get it back after different chemical changes. Reaction of solid copper with HNO3 forms copper nitrate which further changes to copper oxide. Reaction of copper oxide with sulfuric acid forms copper sulfate which further reacts with Zn to form copper metal and zinc sulfate.
The reactions are represented as follows:
This series of reaction is called as copper cycle and it can only study with the help of different chemical symbols of compounds which are involved in the copper cycle like zinc (Zn), sulfuric acid (H2SO4), copper oxide (CuO) and zinc sulfate (ZnSO4).
The chemical names and formulas are used to keep track of the formation of new substance during the reaction and it also accounts for the nature of change that is physical or chemical.
