Explanation of Solution
Transition metals can lose outermost electrons to show different oxidation states. Some oxidation states are more common and stable. For example - Iron (Fe) shows + 2 to + 6 oxidation states but most common are + 2 and + 3. It can be written in brackets with Roman numbers like FeO, in which Fe has an oxidation state + 2, written as iron (II) oxide.
Thus, charge on the transition metal ion can be determined from the chemical formula of compound its form. The compound formed has overall charge of zero, from the known charge of anion in the formula, the charge of cation or transition metal ion can be determined by equating.
