Concept explainers
Interpretation:
The density of aluminium needs to be compared with density of gold. The mass of two substances needs to be explained on the basis of the comparison.
Concept introduction:
A denser compound has lesser volume as compared to less denser compound with same mass. The relation between density, mass and volume is as follows:
Answer to Problem 3E
Density of aluminium is less than that of gold.
If same masses are provided for aluminium and gold then amount of substance (volume) will be greater for aluminium as compared to gold.
Explanation of Solution
As density is inversely proportional to volume so a matter with higher density will have smaller volume provided masses of both the matters are same.
In the given example aluminium will have larger volume as it’s density is less than that of gold.
Aluminium will have less density and has more volume as compared to gold
