Concept explainers
Interpretation:
The difference in mass of two cubes which are made from same material and also have same volume needs to be explained.
Concept introduction:
Chemistry deals with the different processes which occur in surrounding and directly or indirectly related with each other. Density can be defined as the mass of the given substance per unit volume. Thus, it can be defined as the ratio of mass and volume. The mathematical expression of density can be written as:
Explanation of Solution
Given information:
Mass of one cube = 8.91 g
Mass of another cube = 8.88 g
Volume of cube is same and they are made of same material.
The relation between density, mass and volume is as follows:
Two cubes are made up of same materials thus; the density is same for both cubes. Also, the volume of two cubes is same. According to above relation, if volume is same and density is same thus, mass of the cube should be same. Here, the mass of one cube is 8.91 g and that of another cube is 8.88 g. The difference is very less in masses of both the cubes so, there must be some impurity present or any error is made in measuring the mass.
