Interpretation:
The structural formula for CH2O and ClHCO must be drawn. The reason for the two molecules not having mirror-image isomers needs to be explained.
Concept introduction:
A molecule will have mirror-image isomers if the mirror-image isomer is non-superimposable. For these, the plane of symmetry and the center of symmetry must be absent. The molecule is called chiral.
Explanation of Solution
The structural formulas are shown below.
As the two molecules are planar, so mirror image will be superimposable with the original molecule. So these two molecules do not have any mirror-image isomers. These are not chiral because the central atom which is carbon in the case of CHClO, does not have all the different substituents. Carbon is bonded to oxygen two times. While in the case of HCOH, there is a plane of symmetry.
