Concept explainers
Interpretation:
The reason for HONC 1234 rule to be worked needs to be explained.
Concept Introduction :
HONC 1234 rule explains that in most of the molecules, according to this rule the number of bonds formed by H, O, N and C atoms is 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively.
Explanation of Solution
The HONC 1234 rule works as it is convenient specially when drawing Lewis structures. The number denotes to the number of bonds each of the element can make. These four elements are generally used when it comes to drawing Lewis.
It is easy to remember and it fulfills the octets of O, N and C atoms.
The number of valence electrons in H, O, N and C are 1, 6, 5 and 4 respectively.
To form stable molecules, the number of electrons needed for H, O, N and C is 1, 2, 3 and 4 thus, they form 1, 2, 3 and 4 bonds respectively.
