Shape of a molecule has more influence than functional group of a molecule on smell.

Explanation of Solution

Smell of a substance is obtained when odoring molecule from the substance binds with the nasal receptor. This binding needs structural complementary to the molecule with nasal receptor. Different molecules might have same functional group but the overall shape might be different which plays role in binding with the receptors.

Conclusion

Shape of a molecule has more influence on smell than functional group of a molecule.
