Interpretation:
The smell categories need to be identified for five substances which don’t fall under fishy, minty or sweet category.
Concept Introduction :
The sense which allows a person to notice odors is known as smell. It is dependent on the sense organ’s stimulation through small particles carried in the air that is inhaled.

Answer to Problem 3E
Five examples are and they fall in spicy category:
- Hot sauce
- Bell peppers
- Peppers
- Jalapenos
- Horseradish.
Explanation of Solution
Smell is a sense through which any person can perceive the odors. Nose is the main organ to sense the smell. The smell is quite important for the odor detection as well as to enjoy the foods. Because flavor is a combination of smell and taste. Taste has only four categories: Sweet, bitter, sour and salty. Other qualities of flavor are dependent on smell.
Within the nasal mucosa, the organs which smell are special cell’s olfactory cells. These cells are connected to brain’s cranial nerve or olfactory nerve. So, to perceive a faint odor or enjoy a fragrance person should sniff.
Five examples are hot sauce, bell peppers, peppers, jalapenosand horseradish. These substances are in the category of spicy food.
