Interpretation:
The reason for some molecules to smell while other does not needs to be explained.
Concept introduction:
Smell is a complex process taking place between nasal receptor and odoring molecule.
Answer to Problem 1TAI
All molecules can’t interact with the nasal receptors and so some molecules smell while other doesn’t.
Explanation of Solution
Smell of a compound is obtained when volatile molecules from that substance reach to our nasal receptors and binds in a specific manner. It creates a nurve impulse which finally reaches brain. As this process is not taking place with all the substances, so some molecules smell while other don’t.
All molecules don’t have same structures and so some molecules smells while other does not.
