Ingredient list of some common household products such as shampoo, lotion or cleanser must be examined and the functional groups present must be mentioned.

Concept introduction:

Common household products such as shampoo, lotion and cleanser generally contain organic molecules with characteristic smell.

Explanation of Solution

Shampoo contains sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium laureth sulfate and cocamidopropyl betaine.

Lotion contains peptides, vitamin E, antioxidants, glycerine, sodium pyroglutamic acid etc.

Cleanser contains ammonium lauryl sulfate, disodiumcocamphodiacetate, sodium laureth, cocamidopropyl betaine.

Shampoo contains different ingredients in which different functional groups are present.

For example lauryl sulfate, sodium laureth sulfate contain OSO₃Na as functional group.

Cocamidopropyl betaine contains amide (CONH), quaternary amine and carboxylate (COO-).

Lotion contains hydroxyl (OH), amide, carboxylic acid (COOH), phenolic OH, ether.

Cleanser contains OSO3Na, amide, quaternary amine and carboxylate groups.
