Interpretation :
The bonding in atoms to from molecules needs to be explained.
Concept Introduction :
A bond is a force which holds together atoms to form a molecule.
Answer to Problem 1TAI
Atoms form different types of bonds by using valence electrons.
Explanation of Solution
Valence electrons are the participating electrons while forming bonds to form a molecule.
Bond can be ionic in which complete transfer of electrons takes place from electropositive atoms to electronegative atoms. Sometimes bond is formed by equal sharing of electrons; this is known as covalent bond. In this case, there is very less difference in electronegativity of the participating atoms. In few cases, atoms donate lone pair to other atoms to form co-ordinate covalent bonds.
Atom bonds to form molecules using the valence electrons.
