Concept explainers
Interpretation:
The reason to see a sunbeam in a room if there is dust in the air needs to be explained. The ray model needs to be drawn to show the path of light from the source to the dust and then to the eyes.
Concept introduction:
In a dusty room, dust particles in the room will scatter the beam of sun light.
Explanation of Solution
When light passes through air with dust particles, then the light ray is hit by the dust particles and it deviates from its straight line path or scattering of light in atmosphere takes place.
This phenomenon is known as Tyndall effect.
When sunlight enters in dark room through pin hole, the scattering of light by dust particles can be seen.
Thus, the light ray entering in a dusty room becomes visible due to scattering phenomenon.
