Answer to Problem 11E
Option (D) is correct.
Explanation of Solution
If both the reactants are gases then the reaction is fast because gases mix on a molecular scale that results more contact between reactants. If both the reactants are solid then the reaction is slow because they their mixing is not much as gases. So, phases of reactants affect the rate of reaction. Hence, option (A) is correct.
Increasing temperature results increase of the average kinetic energy of reactant molecules. This results the rapid movement of particles and hence more collision occurs. So, increasing temperature of reactants increases rate of reaction. Hence, option (B) is correct.
Catalyst is a substance that increases the rate of reaction without getting consumed in the reaction. So, presence of catalyst increases rate of reaction. Hence, option (C) is correct.
Option D is ‘all of the above’ that is, A, B and C are all correct.
Many factors affect the rate of chemical reaction, such as, concentration, temperature, catalyst etc.
