Concept Introduction: There are three simple ways to transfer heat. They are- convection, conduction and radiation. These three processes explain heat transfer from one object to another. For fluids, heat is mostly transferred by convection. Another way of transmitting heat is through conduction. The third way to heat transfers is radiation.

Conduction does not require any movement of a material, but rather a transfer of energy within a material (or between in contact substances). Heat transfers to the ice cube through conduction. When enough energy is transferred into the ice cube then it is melt.
Explanation of Solution
The sensation of hot or cold depends on the direction of heat transfer. For example, if you hold an ice cube, your hand will feel cold as heat transfers from your hand from the ice cube.
