Interpretation:
The relation between solubility and precipitation from solution needs to be explained.
Concept Introduction:
In a reaction the solid which is formed in the liquid solution is known as precipitate.
The amount of solute dissolve in minimum amount of solvent and form saturated solution is known as solubility.
Explanation of Solution
Precipitates are insoluble ionic solid which forms when the cations and anions combine in an aqueous solution.
The factors on which precipitate depends as follows:
Temperature
Solution used for buffer
Solution concentration
The solid precipitate which formed is crystalline in nature and can be separated through the liquid solution as it falls to the bottom of the solution. The remaining liquid is known as supernatant liquid.
The two mixtures can be separated by filtration, centrifugation etc.
When the solution contains some solid solute then the precipitation occur. Some of the ions leave the solid and some solvated solute will stuck into the solid. If the precipitation process occurs fastly then a lot of solid comes in the solution very fastly. As the solution become more concentrated, the rate of precipitation occurs fastly. When the equilibrium is reached, the solution becomes saturated and the concentration is known as solubility of solute. Solubility will depend on the temperature. As the temperature changes solubility will also changes.
