Interpretation:
Four ions must be listed which have same number of electrons as present in Neon (Ne).
Concept introduction:
Noble gases have very stable electronic configuration with complete octets. Some of the noble gases are He, Ne, Ar, Kr, Xe and Rn.
Neon is an inert gas with 10 electrons.

Answer to Problem 8E
Four ions with same number of electrons as present in Ar are Na + , Mg + 2, O2 - and N3-.
Explanation of Solution
Ions must be found which will have 10 electrons. Na, Mg, O and N have 11, 12, 8 and 7 electrons respectively when they are present in neutral state. To make 10 electrons in these, 1 and 2 electrons must be removed from Na and Mg respectively. Similarly, 2 and 3 electrons must be added to O and N respectively. This results in the formation of Na + , Mg + 2, O2 - and N3 - ion.
The required ions are Na + , Mg + 2, O2 - and N3 - which have same (10) electrons as present in Neon.
