Interpretation:
The use of fire blanket needs to be explained.
Concept introduction:
Rapid oxidation of materials in exothermic reaction during combustion is known as fire. It releases heat, light and other reaction products. There are different ways to extinguish the fire. One must be familiar with the safety equipment in the lab. Before participating in any chemistry activity, one must know where the safety equipment is kept so that in case of any emergency one can easily reach out to them, likewater, fire extinguisher cylinders, etc. are used in case of fire but there are few drawbacks of these substances.
Explanation of Solution
The fire can be extinguished by breaking its contact with air because air contains oxygen which promotes the fire. Latest device to control fire is use of fire blanket. It is a soft fire controlling device. It has following advantages likeenvironment friendly, easy to carry as well as easy storage. Best property is that it is a good insulator and high-temperature resistance device. It can be used everywhere like kitchen, hotels, garage, and gas station as well as in laboratory, etc. and it is only used to extinguish small fires.
Basically, anything catches fire in presence of air/oxygen known as combustible substance so to control/extinguish fire, onemust cut the contact of air.
