Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

Volume of $\text{0}\text{.750-carat}$ diamond has to be calculated.

Concept Introduction:

Density is a physical property and specific for each substance under fixed conditions.  It is defined as the ratio of mass of a substance to the volume of the substance.  They are usually expressed as grams per cubic centimeter (${\text{g/cm}}^{\text{3}}$) for solids and grams per milliliter ($\text{g/mL}$) for liquids.

  $\text{Density}\text{=}\frac{\text{mass}}{\text{volume}}$

From the above formula volume can be calculated if the mass and density is known by rearranging the formula as shown below;

    $\text{Volume}\text{=}\frac{\text{mass}}{\text{density}}$
