Chapter 8, Problem 72TQ
Summary Introduction

To review:

The fate of the labeled carbon (at second position) of glucose in the pentose phosphate pathway.

Introduction:

Glucose is the primary source of energy in a cell, which undergoes glycolysis to produce energy in the form of ATP (adenosine triphosphate) in all the living organisms. However, it can also produce a precursor of nucleic acid or nucleotides by entering an alternate pathway celled pentose phosphate pathway (PPP). There is no ATP production in this pathway, instead reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate(NADPH) and ribose-5-phosphate areproduced.

Four important properties of enzymes are high catalytic rate, high degree of substrate specificity, negligible formation ofside products, and _____________________.
We saw the oxidation/reduction of malate to/fro oxaloacetate in two pathways that we looked at: _____________________________________ and _________________________.
Allosteric enzymes allow the rate of reactions to control the activity. For example, the production of Product (P) can stop or limit the activity of enzyme 1 via _____________________________.
