Glycogen is a polysaccharide of glucose, which serves as the energy source in every organism. It is stored in the skeletal muscles and the pancreas in humans. In liver, glycogen is broken down into glucose units, which are readily shared among different types of cells of the body. Whereas the skeletal muscle releases glucose, which is shared among the muscle cells only.
