Gluconeogenesis is the process by which new molecules of glucose are produced from the noncarbohydrateprecursors. The process of gluconeogenesis generally occurs in the liver and this mechanism is used by the organisms for maintaining the blood glucose levels in order to avoid the condition of hypoglycemia. This process includes the degradation of glycogen along with fatty acid catabolism. It is considered the reverse process of glycolysis.
