Anaerobic fermentation is atype of glucose metabolism, which leads to the production of certain compound, such aslactic acid and ethanol. The process of fermentationtakes place in the absence of oxygen. Yeast is industrially used to produce ethanol on a large scale. In aerobic respiration, the terminal acceptor of electrons is oxygen. However, in anaerobic fermentation, pyruvate and NAD+ (oxidized nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) act as oxidizing agents.
