Introduction:
Glycolysis is the process by which the glucose molecule is metabolized in order to produce two molecules of ATP (adenosine diphosphate), two molecules of NADH (reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide), and two molecules of pyruvate. Gluconeogenesis is the process during which glucose is synthesized from the noncarbohydrate precursors. Glycolysis takes place during respiration, when energy is required by the body. During the absence of glucose, other noncarbohydrate precursors are converted into glucose.
