β-oxidation is a catabolic process occurring in the body through which, fatty acid molecules are broken down in the mitochondria of the cells to generate energy. ATP is the currency of energy. It is a molecule that stores energy for carrying out vital activities in the body. ATP molecules can be generated by mainly three processes, namely glycolysis, the citric acid cycle, and β-oxidation.
