Interpretation:
The three applications of hydrocarbons as a source of energy and raw materials should be identified.
Concept introduction:
The hydrocarbon compounds contain compound that are made up of only hydrogen and carbon atoms. The hydrocarbon compounds that contains single bond(s) between carbon atom(s) are said to be saturated hydrocarbon whereashydrocarbon compounds that contains multiple bond(s) between carbon atom(s) are said to be
Explanation of Solution
Hydrocarbons make good wide variety of fuels and consumer goods as their covalent bonds store large amount of energy, on burning the molecule a large amount of energy is released. One of the most commonly known uses is fuels and include gasoline and diesel. Diesel/coal is used as a fuel for transports/ electric power plants. There are several consumer products that are made up from hydrocarbons, which may be used for the production of wide range of synthetics, plastics, etc. Synthetic diamond is also made up from hydrocarbons.
