Interpretation: The effect of tautomeric form of thymine rather than its stable form in a strand of
Concept introduction: Tautomers are defined as constitutional isomers in which two or more isomers exist in equilibrium and are interchanged by the migration of an atom or a group within the molecule and nitrogenous base is defined as an organic molecule which consists of nitrogen atom and act as the building blocks of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and ribonucleic acid (RNA). The nitrogenous bases are adenine (A), guanine (G), cytosine (C), thymine (T) and uracil (U).
To determine: The effect of tautomeric form of thymine rather than its stable form in a strand of DNA during replication.

Chemistry: An Atoms First Approach
- Although RNA is single-stranded, the strand sometimes folds back on itself to give a complementary portion. What would be the complementary portion of the RNA fragment having the bases uracil-cytosine-guanine? A virus is a particle that contains DNA or RNA that is surrounded by a coat of protein that can replicate only in a host cell. The influencza virus shown in this electron microscope image is an RNA virus.arrow_forward(a) How many tripeptides can be made from glycine, alanine, and leucine, using each amino acid only once per tripeptide? (b) Write the structural formulas of these tripeptides and name them in the shorthand abbreviation used for showing amino acid sequences.arrow_forwarda Describe the three components of a nucleotide. b How does the structure of an RNA nucleotide differ from that of a DNA nucleotide?arrow_forward
- Describe the structural differences between DNA and RNA. The monomers in nucleic acids are called nucleotides. What are the three parts of a nucleotide? The compounds adenine, guanine, cytosine, and thymine are called the nucleic acid bases. What structural features in these compounds make them bases? DNA exhibits a double-helical structure. Explain. Describe how the complementary base pairing between the two individual strands of DNA forms the overall double-helical structure. How is complementary base pairing involved in the replication of the DNA molecule during cell division? Describe how protein synthesis occurs. What is a codon, and what is a gene? The deletion of a single base from a DNA molecule can constitute a fatal mutation, whereas substitution of one base for another is often not as serious a mutation. Explain.arrow_forwardDraw the Lewis diagrams for guanine and cytosine.arrow_forwardAre there any 120° bond angles in ibuprofen? Any 180° angles?arrow_forward

Suppose that you were to genetically engineer a new protein by keeping the exact same sequence, but it was completely reversed in the order of amino acids compared to the original. Would the new protein have the same tertiary structure as the original? Why?arrow_forward
- Biological polymers are made up of individual monomers that are linked together by bonds. The major types of biological polymers are nucleic acids, proteins, and polysaccharides. Complete the sentences. Suppose you are given two DNA samples. One sample, sample A, contains 45% G-C base pairs, while the other sample, sample B, contains 64% G-C base pairs. The total number of bases is the same in each sample. Which of the two samples, sample A or sample B, has a higher melting point? A. sample A B. sample B C. The melting point is the same for both.arrow_forward
