To define common factors.
Explanation of Solution
Given Information: Asked to define common factor.
Formula used: Factorization
Calculation:
"Factors" are numbers one can multiply together to get another number. Whenthe factors of two or more numbers are found with some common factors amongst them, it is known as the "common factors”.
- A common factor is a number that can be divided into two different numbers, without leaving a remainder.
- Often numbers can share more than one common factor.
- It is possible to find the common factors of more than two numbers. Example: 12 and 16
- The factors of 12 are: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 12
- The factors of 16 are: 1, 2, 4, 8 and 16
So the common factors of 12 and 16 are: 1, 2 and 4
