Concept explainers
Interpretation:
The reason due to which air pressure of ear changes on flying high in a commercial plane needs to be explained with the help of kinetic theory of gases.
Concept Introduction:
Kinetic theory of gases is shown below:
It explains the molecules cannot interact with each other.
It explains the momentum is preserved.
It explains the kinetic energy is preserved.
It explains the collision between the molecules is elastic.
Explanation of Solution
According to kinetic theory of gaseous substances, gases flow from high pressure to low pressure. In airplane, the pressure changes with the altitude and there is potential gradient generated in between the air pressure in ear canal and the external pressure. Due to this potential gradient, the gaseous flows from high external pressure to low pressure of ear canal and due to which the passenger feels pain in their ear.
