ATP is the currency of energy. It is a molecule that stores energy for carrying out vital activities in the body. ATP molecules can be generated by mainly three processes, namely glycolysis, the citric acid cycle, and β-oxidation. The β-oxidation process involves breaking down of long fatty acid chains that have been converted to acyl CoAchains into smaller fatty acyl CoA chains. The end products of this metabolic process are acetyl CoA, FADH2and NADH.
