Alkanes are known as class of hydrocarbons. In this class of hydrocarbons, the carbon atoms are bonded by the single bond. The longest chain of carbon atoms is considered first for the nomenclature of alkanes. The main carbon chain is used to derive the name of the alkane if there is any presence of substituent attached with the carbon chain then the name of the substituent is written with the number of carbon atom. The numbering of substituent is done with the lowest possible number.
