Question
Chapter 16.SE, Problem 65AP
Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation:
Starting from either benzene or phenol how MON-0585 can be synthesized is to be stated.
Concept introduction:
Benzene is subjected to Friedal-Crafts reaction by treating with isopropyl chloride in the presence of AlCl3. The isopropylbenzene is brominated in the benzyl position by reaction with NBS. The bromocompound obtained is treated with phenol in the presence of AlCl3 when a p-substituted phenol is produced. The p-substituted phenol when subjected to another Friedal-Crafts reaction with tert-butylchloride in the presence of AlCl3 will produce MON-0585.
To state:
Starting from benzene how MON-0585 can be synthesized.

Acridine is a heterocyclic aromatic compound obtained from coal tar that is used in the synthesis of dyes. The molecular formula of acridine is C13H9N, and its ring system is analogous to that of anthracene except that one CH group has been replaced by N. The two most stable resonance structures of acridine are equivalent to each other, and both contain a pyridine-like structural unit. Write a structural formula for acridine.
