Introduction:

Sickle cell anemia causes a defect in the oxygen carrying capacity of blood. The red blood cells acquire the shape of a sickle as compared to the original bi-concave shape of red blood cells. It is acquired in the form of autosomal recessive inheritance. It occurs due to a mutation in the chain of hemoglobin which forms blood cells.
