The mathematical expression of percentage composition is:
The ratio of mass or amount of element to the total mass of compound is multiplied by 100 to represents in terms of percentage.
For an example:
Let mass of element A = 10 g
Mass of total compound = 20 g
Thus,
= 50 % A
Hence, one can say that the percentage composition of 50 % A, there is 50 g of A is present in the compound if total compound has mass of 100 g.
