A hydrated compound is the one in which there is certain number of H2O molecule which is the part of the structure of the compound. Some of the crystalline solids are hydrated compound.
One hydrated compound is CuSO4.5H2O which is known as copper sulfate pentahydrate.
Explanation of Solution
In ionic solids sometimes certain numbers of water molecules are present. When these water molecules are removed then the structure of the ionic solid is broken. These water molecules can form hydrogen bonds as well as coordinate covalent bonds in the ionic solid. In most of the cases these water molecules are removed when the ionic solid is strongly heated.
The 5 water molecules of copper sulfate pentahydrate (blue) are removed on heating resulting the formation of anhydrous CuSO4 (white).
Hydrated compounds contain molecular water. One such compound is copper sulfate penthydrate.
