Steps to determine the IUPAC name of a compound are:
Step 1: Identify the longest continuous carbon chain and number the carbon atoms such that the substituents attached to the parent chain get the lowest possible number.
Step 2: Identify the carbon number to which the substituent is attached.
Step 3: Identify the substituent or branched group attached to the parent chain.
