(a)
Interpretation:
The major product of the given reaction is to be predicted.
Concept introduction:
The synthesis of ester from
Methyl group <primary alkyl group <secondary alkyl group = aryl group <tertiary alkyl group < H.
(b)
Interpretation:
The major product of the given reaction is to be predicted
Concept introduction:
The synthesis of ester from ketone or aldehyde in presence of CF3CO3H and meta-chloroperbenzoic acid(MCPBA) is called Baeyer Villiger oxidation. In the Baeyer villiger oxidation oxygen atom from peroxide is inserted between the carbonyl carbon and one of the groups initially bonded to carbonyl carbon. If ketone is symmetric, only one product is formed, but if ketone or aldehyde is unsymmetric, the major product depends on which group leaves from carbonyl carbon. The ability of the leaving group is called migratory aptitude. The order of migratory aptitude is as follows:
Methyl group <primary alkyl group <secondary alkyl group = aryl group <tertiary alkyl group < H.
(c)
Interpretation:
The major product of given compound is to be predicted and reaction is shown as.
