Interpretation:

The structures of the two amino acids that are formed when asparagine and glutamine are decomposed in hot, concentrated HCl are to be written.

Concept introduction:

Proteins are large molecules that are constructed from the α- amino acids. The amino acids are joined by a group characteristic of amides in a stable protein.  Since amides are least reactive acid derivative, it requires relatively extreme conditions to hydrolyze them. Thus to complete the hydrolysis of a protein, it requires strongly acidic conditions and very high temperature. The amino acid which has an amide group as a side chain is also hydrolyzed under these conditions. The relative amounts of each type of amino acid in a protein can be determined by the complete hydrolysis of the protein.
