Concept explainers
To calculate the equation for the packages. Also give 3 possible combinations of packages.
Answer to Problem 10PTTS
The equation is
Possible combinations are:
- 3 wrapping paper and 308 greeting cards.
- 43 wrapping paper and 274 greeting cards.
- 523 wrapping paper and 100 greeting cards.
Explanation of Solution
Given information: Cost of wrapping paper = $2 andcost of boxes of greeting cards = $5.
Calculation:
Let wrapping paper be x and greeting cards be y.
According to question,
Now, for the possible combinations, put values of x and y in equation (1)
Putting, x =3
On dividing both sides with 5,
y = 308
1st combination is 3 wrapping paper and 308 greeting cards.
Put x = 43
On dividing both sides with 5,
Y =274
2nd combination is 43 wrapping paper and 274 greeting cards.
Put y=100
On dividing both sides with 2,
3rd combination is 523 wrapping paper and 100 greeting cards.
