Interpretation: The role of sodium ions and potassium ions in the body is to be described.
Concept Introduction : The sodium and potassium are known as the electrolytes, and both have different roles in the process of
Answer to Problem 107A
Both are the most important components required by the body. They maintain the body functions by maintaining the blood’s and fluid’s volume.
Explanation of Solution
The potassium ion is an intracellular ion whereas the sodium ion is an extracellular ion. The large single-charged ions substitute potassium ion in the tissues of living body while lithium ions substitute the small amount (as compared to potassium ion) of sodium ions.
The human body requires minimum amount of sodium that ranges between 115 and 500 mg in per day. It releases during the sweating of the humans due to the adaptation of the climate and physical activities performed by the human beings. The sodium is taken in the form of sodium chloride.
Similarly, potassium is also an essential for the human body. The human body requires minimum amount of potassium that ranges between 400 and 800 mg in per day. It keeps protected from the strokes, protects kidney’s stones, protects from osteoporosis and from blood pressure problems.
