Concept Introduction: Stable atom can be detected by the octet rule. The octet rule, a chemical general rule of thumb, reflects the idea that main-group elements prefer to bond so that each atom receives eight electrons within its valence shell, giving it the same electrical configuration as just a noble gas.

Ions having complete octets will be more stable than atoms.
Explanation of Solution
It is well known that the octet rule can be used to detect stability. An atom or ion will become more stable when it falls under the octet rule. In general, it is discovered that they either gain or lose electrons in order to produce a stable noble gas structure. As a result, ions have noble gas structures whereas atoms do not. As a result, ions might be more stable as compared to atoms.
For example, a potassium atom has 19 electrons. The electronic configuration of potassium will be 2,8,1. When it will lose its one electron, it will attain a noble gas electronic configuration (Ne).
