The β- galactosidase is an enzyme that hydrolyzes only the β-(1,4) linkage of lactose. An unknown trisaccharide is converted by β- galactosidase into maltose and galactose. Draw the structure of the trisaccharide.
Introduction:
A trisaccharide is a sugar compound formed by the glycosidic linkage of three monosaccharide units. Galactose is a monosaccharide thatcombines with glucose via β-(1,4)-glycosidic linkage to form lactose. Whereas two monomeric glucose molecules combine by α-(1,4)-glycosidic linkage.
