Lipid is defined as the molecules which consists of hydrocarbon and not soluble in water but soluble in nonpolar solvents.

The functions of lipids are listed below:

1. Lipids act a source of energy in living organisms in stored form.
2. Lipids help in the formation of Biological membranes.
3. Lipids help in protection and insulation. Lipids help the plants leaves for being drying up.
4. Lipids help in the regulating hormones.
5. Lipids also transmit the signals.
6. Lipids help in the growth of cells in the body.
