Explanation of Solution
The difference between anabolism and catabolism is the way or process of the molecules is utilized in the body. Anabolism creates molecules that are needed by the functionality for the body and also used energy in the process whereas catabolism breaks down the complex molecules into simpler molecules and results in the release of energy that is used by the body.
The differences are listed below:
Anabolism | Catabolism |
In this process, the molecules are created which are needed for the body’s functionality. | In this process, complex molecules are break down into smaller molecules and results in the release of energy. |
This process needs energy. | This process release energy. |
It is needed for maintenance, storage and growth. | It is needed to perform different activities in living beings. |
In this process, kinetic energy converts into potential energy. | In this process, potential energy converts into kinetic energy. |
For example, break down of glycogen into glucose. | For example, glucose forms glycogen |
Thus, in the catabolism process, bigger complex molecules breakdown into simpler molecules whereas in the anabolism process, simpler molecules combine to form complex molecules.
