Explanation of Solution
Potassium is a group 1 metal and it has one valence electron while iodine is a group 17 elements and has seven valence electrons. Draw the electron dot structures depicting both elements.
In order to form a stable, neutral ionic compound, potassium gives its valance electron to iodine. Then iodine have full octet of valence electrons and −1 charge. And potassium has vacant valence shell and a +1 charge. Transferring of one valence electron from iodine to potassium is given below:
