Chapter 5, Problem 5.101P
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The number of molecules of methane should be calculated

Concept Introduction:

Raoult's Law:

It states that the partial pressure of gas in a mixture is equal to the product of the total pressure of a gas and its mole fraction.

The mathematical expression is:

  PA=XAPtotal

Where, PA = Partial pressure of gas A, XA = mole fraction of gas A and Ptotal = vapor pressure of mixture.

The partial pressure of gas A is obtained by the multiplication of mole fraction of gas A and total pressure of mixture.

According to the relation, the partial pressure of gas A is directly proportional to its mole fraction implies with increase in the mole fraction, the partial pressure of a gas is also increases whereas with decrease in the mole fraction, the partial pressure of a gas is also decreases.
