Concept explainers
Interpretation:
Whether the claim about crystals is valid or not should be determined.
Concept Introduction:
The crystals are a particular form of the solid-state compound in which the constituent ions or atoms of the molecule remains in a regular pattern. The regular pattern generates some features to the solid-like hard, brittle, shiny etc. For the shining property, the solids are used in jewelry as a gemstone. The shiny nature of the solid was explained by scientist Bragg, which is called Braggs equation in solid state chemistry. According to which there remain some layers of the regular pattern of the constituents in the crystal when light falls on this solids the light is reflected according to the equationcalled Bragg’s equation.
Where n = any positive integer, wavelength of the incoming light, d = distance between the successive layers in the solid and the angle on which the light is falling on the crystal.
