Question
Chapter 4, Problem 72AP
Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation:
To explain why Neon does not tend to form
Concept Introduction:
Metals or nonmetals react with each other by removing and accepting electrons respectively from their valence shells. The resulting ions tend to have an electronic configuration that resembles the noble gases. All noble gases except have 8 electrons in the valence shell. This is known as the octet rule. The valence shell is completely filled with electrons and this configuration is the most stable. That is why metals and nonmetals react to attain the octet in the valence shells.
