Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation: The given amide compound has to be prepared using acetic acid only as the carbon source.

Concept Introduction:

The carboxylic acid is converted into the corresponding chloride using thionyl chloride which is allowed to react with ammonia giveing the corresponding amide.  The amide group on treatment with lithium aluminum hydride which is a strong reducing agent followed by water work-up, it reduces the amide group into methylene primary amine. If primary amine is reacting with the carboxylic acid, an amide group is formed.
